Spent a good day at the London Boat Show. Useful discussion with Garmin on the new 750s chart plotter. A potential new toy for the boat.

14th December 2010

Successful completion of the Arc after 26 days and over 3,200 nautical miles of sailing across the Atlantic. It was an excellent adventure full of exhilarating challenges.

Safety Boat

This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies windsurfers or canoes or for racing or training activities.

Course Details

Course type:	POWERBOAT (Planning)
Suggested minimum pre-course experience:	RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate must be held prior to the course.
Assumed knowledge:	Minimum age 16. Basic understanding of sailing boats.
Course content:	Boat handling, rescue techniques for sailing dinghies, windsurfers and canoes and tows. The Course covers: Boat checks and the safety equipment needed on board Race management Boat positioning with respect to the fleet Driving in close proximity to sailing craft/kayaks etc Methods for recovering persons from the water. Dealing with entrapments Righting multihulls & performance dinghies Windsurfer recovery and rescue. Recovery of kayaks/canoes. Rescues in adverse conditions (lee-shore) Towing – alongside and inline towing. Discussing and looking at a Kite and how to rescue a kite surfer.
Ability after course:	Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
Minimum duration:	Two days.
